摘要: Based on the Gaia DR2 catalogue of hot subdwarf star candidates, we identified 1587 hot subdwarf stars with spectra in LAMOST DR7. We present atmospheric parameters for these stars by fitting the LAMOST spectra with {\sc Tlusty/Synspec} non-LTE synthetic spectra. Combining LAMOST radial velocities and Gaia Early Data Release 3 (EDR3) parallaxes and proper motions, we also present the Galactic space positions, velocity vectors, orbital parameters and the Galactic population memberships of the stars. With our He classification scheme, we identify four groups of He rich hot subdwarf stars in the $T_{\rm eff}-\log\,g$ and $T_{\rm eff}-\log{(n{\rm He}/n{\rm H})}$ diagrams. We find two extreme He-rich groups ($e$He-1 and $e$He-2) for stars with $\log{(n{\rm He}/n{\rm H})}\geq0$ and two intermediate He-rich groups ($i$He-1 and $i$He-2) for stars with $-1\le\log{(n{\rm He}/n{\rm H})}<0$. We also find that over half of the stars in Group $e$He-1 are thick disk stars, while over half of the stars in Group $e$He-2 correspond to thin disk stars. The disk population fractions of Group $i$He-1 are between those of Group $e$He-1 and $e$He-2. Almost all stars in Group $i$He-2 belong to the thin disk. These differences indicate that the four groups probably have very different origins. Comparisons between hot subdwarf stars in the halo and in the Galactic globular cluster $\omega$ Cen show that only He-deficient stars with $-2.2\le\log{(n{\rm He}/n{\rm H})}<-1$ have similar fractions. Hot subdwarfs with $\log{(n{\rm He}/n{\rm H})}\ge 0$ in $\omega$ Cen have no counterparts in the thick disk and halo populations, but they appear in the thin disk.

  • Unveiling hidden stellar aggregates in the Milky Way: 1656 new star clusters found in Gaia EDR3

分类: 天文学 >> 天文学 提交时间: 2023-02-19

摘要: We report 1,656 new star clusters found in the Galactic disk (|b|<20 degrees) beyond 1.2 kpc, using Gaia EDR3 data. Based on an unsupervised machine learning algorithm, DBSCAN, and followed our previous studies, we utilized a unique method to do the data preparation and obtained the clustering coefficients, which proved to be an effective way to search blindly for star clusters. We tabulated the physical parameters and member stars of the new clusters, and presented some interesting examples, including a globular cluster candidate. The cluster parameters and member stars are available at CDS via anonymous ftp to https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/ftp/vizier.submit//he22c. We examined the new discoveries and discussed their statistical properties. The proper motion dispersions and radii of the new clusters were the same as the previously reported ones. The new star clusters beyond 1.2 kpc were older than those in the solar neighborhood, and the new objects found in the third Galactic quadrant presented the lowest line-of-sight extinctions. Combined with our previous results, the total population of new clusters detected through our method was 2,541, corresponding to 55% of all newly published clusters in the Gaia era. The number of cataloged Gaia star clusters was also increased to nearly six thousand. In the near future, it is necessary to make a unified confirmation and member star determination for all reported clusters.

  • A Blind All-sky Search for Star Clusters in Gaia EDR3: 886 Clusters within 1.2 kpc of the Sun

摘要: Although previous searches for star clusters have been very successful, many clusters are likely still omitted, especially at high Galactic latitude regions. In this work, based on the astrometry of Gaia EDR3, we searched nearby (parallax > 0.8 mas) all-sky regions, obtaining 886 star clusters, of which 270 candidates have not been cataloged before. At the same time, we have presented the physical parameters of the clusters by fitting theoretical isochrones to their optical magnitudes. More halo members and expanding structures in many star clusters were also found. Most of the new objects are young clusters that are less than 100 million years old. Our work greatly increased the sample size and physical parameters of star clusters in the solar neighborhood, in particular, 46 clusters are newly found with |b| > 20 deg, which represents an increase of nearly three fold of cluster numbers at high Galactic latitude regions. The cluster parameters and member stars are available at CDS via https://cdsarc.u-strasbg.fr/ftp/vizier.submit//hezh22b/, and the cluster figure sets are available via https://doi.org/10.12149/101133.

  • Extremely low-mass white dwarf stars observed in Gaia DR2 and LAMOST DR8

摘要: We present the first results from our ongoing project to study extremely low mass (ELM) white dwarfs (WDs) ($M$ $\leq$ 0.3$M_{\sun}$) with the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fibre Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) spectra. Based on the LAMOST DR8 spectral database, we analyzed 136 ELM WD candidates selected from $\it Gaia$ DR2 data and 12 known objects previously identified by the ELM Survey. The atmospheric parameters and radial velocities of these stars were obtained by fitting the LAMOST low-resolution spectra. After comparing the atmospheric parameters of the 12 known objects from this work to the results reported by the ELM Survey, we demonstrated the potential of LAMOST spectra in probing into the nature of ELM WDs. Based on the atmospheric parameters and $\it Gaia$ EDR3 data, we identified 21 new high-probability ELM WDs with masses $M$ $\leq$ 0.3$M_{\sun}$ and parallax estimates that agree to within a factor of 3. Two of them, J0338+4134 and J1129+4715, show significant radial velocity variability and are very likely to be binary systems containing at least one ELM WD.

  • A Robust Hot Subdwarfs Identification Method Based on Deep Learning

摘要: Hot subdwarf star is a particular type of star that is crucial for studying binary evolution and atmospheric diffusion processes. In recent years, identifying Hot subdwarfs by machine learning methods has become a hot topic, but there are still limitations in automation and accuracy. In this paper, we proposed a robust identification method based on the convolutional neural network (CNN). We first constructed the dataset using the spectral data of LAMOS DR7-V1. We then constructed a hybrid recognition model including an 8-class classification model and a binary classification model. The model achieved an accuracy of 96.17% on the testing set. To further validate the accuracy of the model, we selected 835 Hot subdwarfs that were not involved in the training process from the identified LAMOST catalog (2428, including repeated observations) as the validation set. An accuracy of 96.05% was achieved. On this basis, we used the model to filter and classify all 10,640,255 spectra of LAMOST DR7-V1, and obtained a catalog of 2393 Hot subdwarf candidates, of which 2067 have been confirmed. We found 25 new Hot subdwarfs among the remaining candidates by manual validation. The overall accuracy of the model is 87.42%. Overall, the model presented in this study can effectively identify specific spectra with robust results and high accuracy, and can be further applied to the classification of large-scale spectra and the search of specific targets.

  • A Roche Lobe-filling hot Subdwarf and White Dwarf Binary: possible detection of an ejected common envelope

分类: 天文学 >> 天文学 提交时间: 2023-02-19

摘要: Binaries consisting of a hot subdwarf star and an accreting white dwarf (WD) are sources of gravitational wave radiation at low frequencies and possible progenitors of type Ia supernovae if the WD mass is large enough. Here, we report the discovery of the third binary known of this kind: it consists of a hot subdwarf O (sdO) star and a WD with an orbital period of 3.495 hours and an orbital shrinkage of 0.1 s in 6 yr. The sdO star overfills its Roche lobe and likely transfers mass to the WD via an accretion disk. From spectroscopy, we obtain an effective temperature of $T_{\mathrm{eff}}=54\,240\pm1\,840$ K and a surface gravity of $\log{g}=4.841\pm0.108$ for the sdO star. From the light curve analysis, we obtain a sdO mass of $M_{\mathrm{sdO}}=0.55$ ${\mathrm{M_{\odot}}}$ and a mass ratio of $q=M_{\mathrm{WD}}/M_{\mathrm{sdO}}=0.738\pm0.001$. Also, we estimate that the disk has a radius of $\sim 0.41R_\odot$ and a thickness of $\sim 0.18R_\odot$. The origin of this binary is probably a common envelope ejection channel, where the progenitor of the sdO star is either an RGB star or, more likely, an early AGB star; the sdO star will subsequently evolve into a WD and merge with its WD companion, likely resulting in an R CrB star. The outstanding feature in the spectrum of this object is strong Ca H&K lines, which are blueshifted by $\sim$200 km/s and likely originate from the recently ejected common envelope, and we estimated that the remnant CE material in the binary system has a density $\sim 6\times 10^{-10} {\rm g/cm^3}$.
