  • The Solar Upper Transition Region Imager (SUTRI) onboard the SATech-01 satellite

    摘要: The Solar Upper Transition Region Imager (SUTRI) onboard the Space Advanced Technology demonstration satellite (SATech-01), which was launched to a sun-synchronous orbit at a height of 500 km in July 2022, aims to test the on-orbit performance of our newly developed Sc-Si multi-layer reflecting mirror and the 2kx2k EUV CMOS imaging camera and to take full-disk solar images at the Ne VII 46.5 nm spectral line with a filter width of 3 nm. SUTRI employs a Ritchey-Chretien optical system with an aperture of 18 cm. The on-orbit observations show that SUTRI images have a field of view of 41.6'x41.6' and a moderate spatial resolution of 8" without an image stabilization system. The normal cadence of SUTRI images is 30 s and the solar observation time is about 16 hours each day because the earth eclipse time accounts for about 1/3 of SATech-01's orbit period. Approximately 15 GB data is acquired each day and made available online after processing. SUTRI images are valuable as the Ne VII 46.5 nm line is formed at a temperature regime of 0.5 MK in the solar atmosphere, which has rarely been sampled by existing solar imagers. SUTRI observations will establish connections between structures in the lower solar atmosphere and corona, and advance our understanding of various types of solar activity such as flares, filament eruptions, coronal jets and coronal mass ejections.

  • Material Properties of Organic Liquids, Ices, and Hazes on Titan

    摘要: Titan has a diverse range of materials in its atmosphere and on its surface: the simple organics that reside in various phases (gas, liquid, ice) and the solid complex refractory organics that form Titan's haze layers. These materials all actively participate in various physical processes on Titan, and many material properties are found to be important in shaping these processes. Future in-situ exploration on Titan would likely encounter a range of materials, and a comprehensive database to archive the material properties of all possible material candidates will be needed. Here we summarize several important material properties of the organic liquids, ices, and the refractory hazes on Titan that are available in the literature and/or that we have computed. These properties include thermodynamic properties (phase change points, sublimation and vaporization saturation vapor pressure, and latent heat), physical property (density), and surface properties (liquid surface tensions and solid surface energies). We have developed a new database to provide a repository for these data and make them available to the science community. These data can be used as inputs for various theoretical models to interpret current and future remote sensing and in-situ atmospheric and surface measurements on Titan. The material properties of the simple organics may also be applicable for giant planets and icy bodies in the outer solar system, interstellar medium, and protoplanetary disks.

  • Second-Harmonic Generation in Etchless Lithium Niobate Nanophotonic Waveguides with Bound States in the Continuum

    摘要: Bound states in the continuum (BICs) have been extensively studied in various systems since its first proposal in quantum mechanics. Photonic BICs can enable optical mode confinement and provide field enhancement for nonlinear optics, but they have rarely been explored in nonlinear integrated photonic waveguides. Applying BICs in photonic integrated circuits enables low-loss light guidance and routing in low-refractive-index waveguides on high-refractive-index substrates, which is suitable for integrated photonics with nonlinear materials. Here, we report experimental demonstration of second-harmonic generation from telecom to near-visible wavelengths on an etchless lithium niobate platform by using a photonic BIC for the second-harmonic mode. The devices feature second-harmonic conversion efficiency of 0.175%W-1cm-2 and excellent thermal stability with a wavelength shift of only 1.7 nm from 25{\deg}C to 100{\deg}C. Our results represent a new paradigm of nonlinear integrated photonics on a cost-effective and convenient platform, which can enable a broad range of on-chip applications such as optical parametric generation, signal processing, and quantum photonics.

  • Surface acoustic microwave photonic filters on etchless lithium niobate integrated platform

    摘要: Lithium niobate on insulator emerges as a promising platform for integrated microwave photonics because of its capability of ultralow-loss guidance and high-efficiency modulation of light. Chip-level integration of microwave filters is important for signal processing in the 5G/6G wireless communication. Here, we employed the principle of bound states in the continuum for low-loss waveguiding on an etchless lithium niobate integrated platform, and realized high-performance microwave photonic filters thereon. These microwave photonic filters consist of a high-quality photonic microcavity modulated by piezoelectrically excited surface acoustic waves. Acoustic time delays from 21 to 106 ns and passbands with bandwidth as narrow as 0.89 MHz were achieved in the fabricated filters operating at gigahertz frequencies. Our demonstration may open up new applications on the lithium niobate integrated platform, such as optical communication, signal processing, and beam steering.

  • Observation of bound states in the continuum in a micromechanical resonator

    摘要: Bound states in the continuum (BICs) refer to physical states that possess intrinsic zero dissipation loss even though they are located in the continuous energy spectrum. BICs have been widely explored in optical and acoustic structures, leading to applications in sensing and lasing. Realizing BICs in micromechanical structures is of significant importance for both fundamental research and engineering applications. Here, we fabricated, with CMOS-compatible processes on a silicon chip, a wheel-shaped micromechanical resonator, in which we experimentally observed the BIC in the micromechanical domain. Such BICs result from destructive interference between two dissipative modes of the mechanical structure under broken azimuthal symmetry. These BICs are found to be robust against size variations of the dissipation channels. The demonstrated mechanical BIC can be obtained with a large and robust supporting structure, which substantially reduces device fabrication difficulty and allows for its operation in versatile environments for broader application areas. Our results open a new way of phonon trapping in micromechanical structures with dissipation channels, and produce long phonon lifetimes that are desired in many mechanical applications such as mechanical oscillators, sensors, and quantum information processors.

  • Harvesting the triplet excitons of quasi-two-dimensional perovskite toward highly efficient white light-emitting diodes

    摘要: Utilization of triplet excitons, which generally emit poorly, is always fundamental to realize highly efficient organic light-emitting diodes (LEDs). While triplet harvest and energy transfer via electron exchange between triplet donor and acceptor are fully understood in doped organic phosphorescence and delayed fluorescence systems, the utilization and energy transfer of triplet excitons in quasi-two-dimensional (quasi-2D) perovskite are still ambiguous. Here, we use an orange-phosphorescence-emitting ultrathin organic layer to probe triplet behavior in the sky-blue-emitting quasi-2D perovskite. The delicate white LEDs architecture enables a carefully tailored Dexter-like energy-transfer mode that largely rescues the triplet excitons in quasi-2D perovskite. Our white organic-inorganic LEDs achieve maximum forward-viewing external quantum efficiency of 8.6% and luminance over 15000 cd m-2, exhibiting a significant efficiency enhancement versus the corresponding sky-blue perovskite LED (4.6%). The efficient management of energy transfer between excitons in quasi-2D perovskite and Frenkel excitons in organic layer opens the door to fully utilizing excitons for white organic-inorganic LEDs.

  • Adenoviral cardiotrophin-1 transfer improves survival and early graft function after ischemia and reperfusion in rat small-for-size liver transplantation model

    摘要: This study was to investigate the effect of donor liver adenoviral cardiotrophin-1 (CT-1) gene transfer on early graft survival and function in rat small-for-size liver transplantation. We constructed a recombinant murine CT-1 adenoviral vector. Donor rats were transduced in vivo with adenoviruses expressing CT-1 (AdCT-1) or control vector (AdEGFP). Livers were harvested 4 days later, reduced to 40% of weight, and transplanted. A syngeneic rat orthotopic liver transplantation model was performed using 40% small-for-size grafts. Graft survival, liver function, hepatic architecture change, the degree of necrosis and apoptosis, and cell survival signaling pathways were assessed. AdCT-1 pretreatment markedly improved liver function and the survival of small-for-size grafts. In the CT-1 treatment group, hepatic architecture was well protected, apoptotic and necrotic cells were reduced; anti-apoptotic protein bcl-2 was up-regulated and proapoptotic cleaved caspase-3 was down-regulated, cell survival signaling pathways were activated by phosphorylation of protein kinase B (Akt), extracellular-regulated kinase (ERK) and Signal transducer and activator of transcription-3 (Stat- 3) after transplantation. In conclusion, donor liver adenoviral CT-1 transfer ameliorated ischemia/reperfusion injury by decreasing hepatic necrosis and apoptosis in small-for-size liver transplantation, mediated in part by activation of the Akt, ERK, and Stat-3 survival signaling pathways. These results may provide a potential clinical strategy to improve the outcome of small-for-size liver grafts.
