  • Three Pulsars Discovered in Globular Cluster M15 (NGC 7078) with FAST

    摘要: We present the discovery of three pulsars in Globular Cluster M15 (NGC 7078) by the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST).In the three pulsars, PSR~J2129+1210J (M15J) is a millisecond pulsar with a spinning period of 11.84 ms and a dispersion measure of 66.68 pc cm$^{-3}$.Both PSR~J2129+1210K and L (M15K and L) are long period pulsars with spinning periods of 1928 ms and 3961 ms, respectively,while M15L is the GC pulsar with the longest spinning period till now.The discoveries of M15K and L support the theory that core-collapsed Globular Clusters may contain partially recycled long period pulsars citep{verbunt-2014-slowpulsar}.With the same dataset, the timing solutions of M15A to H were updated,and the timing parameter P1 of M15F is different from the previous results, which is approximately 0.027$ times 10^{-18} ss^{-1}$ from our work and $0.032 times 10^{-18} ss^{-1}$ from Anderson's citep{anderson-1993}.As predicted by Rodolfi et al. citep{ridolfi-2017},the luminosity of M15C kept decreasing and the latest detection in our dataset is on December 20$^{ rm th}$, 2022.We also detected M15I for one more time.The different barycentric spin periods indicate that this pulsar should locate in a binary system,manifesting itself as the exceptional one in such a core-collapsing GC.

  • Investigating galactic double white dwarfs for sub-milliHz gravitational wave missions

    摘要: A large number of galactic binary systems emit gravitational waves (GW) continuously with frequencies below $\sim$10 mHz. The LISA mission could identify the tens of thousands of binaries over years of observation and will be subject to the confusion noise around 1 mHz yielded by the unresolved sources. Beyond LISA, there are several missions have been proposed to observe GWs in the sub-mHz range where the galactic foreground is expected to be overwhelming the instrumental noises. In this study, we investigate the detectability of sub-mHz GW missions to detect the galactic double white dwarf (DWD) binaries and evaluate the confusion noise produced by the undistinguished DWDs. This confusion noise could also be viewed as a stochastic GW foreground and be effectively observed in the sub-mHz band. The parameter determinations for the modeled foreground are examined by employing different detector sensitivities and population models. By assuming the determined foregrounds could be subtracted from the data, we evaluate the residuals which are expected to have power spectral densities two orders of magnitude lower than the originals data.

  • X-ray spectral correlations in a sample of Low-mass black hole X-ray binaries in the hard state

    摘要: The power-law emission and reflection component provide valuable insights into the accretion process around a black hole. In this work, thanks to the broadband spectra coverage of \emph{the Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array}, we study the spectral properties for a sample of low-mass black hole X-ray binaries (BHXRBs). We find that there is a positive correlation between the photon index $\Gamma$ and the reflection fraction $R$ (the ratio of the coronal intensity that illuminates the disk to the coronal intensity that reaches the observer), consistent with previous studies, but except for MAXI J1820+070. It is quite interesting that this source also deviates from the well-known ``V"-shaped correlation between the photon index $\Gamma$ and the X-ray luminosity log$L_{\rm X}$, when it is in the bright hard state. More specifically, the $\Lambda$-shaped correlation between $\Gamma$ and log$L_{\rm X}$ is observed, as the luminosity decreases by a factor of 3 in a narrow range from $\sim 10^{38}$ to $10^{37.5}$ $\rm erg~s^{-1}$. Furthermore, we discover a strong positive correlation between $R$ and the X-ray luminosity for BHXRBs in the hard state, which puts a constraint on the disk-corona coupling and the evolution.

  • VOLKS2: a transient search and localization pipeline for VLBI observations

    摘要: We present VOLKS2, the second release of "VLBI Observation for transient Localization Keen Searcher". The pipeline aims at transient search in regular VLBI observations as well as detection of single pulses from known sources in dedicated VLBI observations. The underlying method takes the idea of geodetic VLBI data processing, including fringe fitting to maximize the signal power and geodetic VLBI solving for localization. By filtering the candidate signals with multiple windows within a baseline and by cross matching with multiple baselines, RFIs are eliminated effectively. Unlike the station auto spectrum based method, RFI flagging is not required in the VOLKS2 pipeline. EVN observation (EL060) is carried out, so as to verify the pipeline's detection efficiency and localization accuracy in the whole FoV. The pipeline is parallelized with MPI and further accelerated with GPU, so as to exploit the hardware resources of modern GPU clusters. We can prove that, with proper optimization, VOLKS2 could achieve comparable performance as auto spectrum based pipelines. All the code and documents are publicly available, in the hope that our pipeline is useful for radio transient studies.

  • FAST Globular Cluster Pulsar Survey: Twenty-Four Pulsars Discovered in Fifteen Globular Clusters

    摘要: We present the discovery of 24 pulsars in 15 Globular Clusters (GCs) using the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST). These include the first pulsar discoveries in M2, M10, and M14. Most of the new systems are either confirmed or likely members of binary systems. M53C, NGC6517H and I are the only three pulsars confirmed to be isolated. M14A is a black widow pulsar with an orbital period of 5.5 hours and a minimum companion mass of 0.016 \Ms. M14E is an eclipsing binary pulsar with an orbital period of 20.3 hours. With the other 8 discoveries that have been reported elsewhere, in total 32 GC pulsars have been discovered by FAST so far. In addition, We detected M3A twice. This was enough to determine that it is a black widow pulsar with an orbital period of 3.3 hours and a minimum companion mass of 0.0125 \Ms.

  • A Q-band line survey towards Orion KL using the Tianma radio telescope

    摘要: We have conducted a line survey towards Orion KL using the Q-band receiver of Tianma 65 m radio telescope (TMRT), covering 34.8--50 GHz with a velocity resolution between 0.79 km s$^{-1}$ and 0.55 km s$^{-1}$ respectively. The observations reach a sensitivity on the level of 1-8 mK, proving that the TMRT is sensitive for conducting deep line surveys. In total, 597 Gaussian features are extracted. Among them, 177 radio recombination lines (RRLs) are identified, including 126, 40 and 11 RRLs of hydrogen, helium and carbon, with a maximum $\Delta n$ of 16, 7, and 3, respectively. The carbon RRLs are confirmed to originate from photodissociation regions with a $V_{\rm LSR}\sim$9 km s$^{-1}$. In addition, 371 molecular transitions of 53 molecular species are identified. Twenty-one molecular species of this survey were not firmly detected in the Q band by Rizzo et al. (2017), including species such as H$_2$CS, HCOOH, C$_2$H$_5$OH, H$_2^{13}$CO, H$_2$CCO, CH$_3$CHO, CH$_2$OCH$_2$, HCN $v_2=1$, and CH$_3$OCHO $v_t=1$. In particular, the vibrationally excited states of ethyl cyanide (C$_2$H$_5$CN $v$13/$v$21) are for the first time firmly detected in the Q band. NH$_3$ (15,15) and (16,16) are identified, and they are so far the highest transitions of the NH$_3$ inversion lines detected towards Orion KL. All the identified lines can be reproduced by a radiative transfer model.

  • First Detection of Radio Recombination Lines of Ions Heavier than Helium

    摘要: We report the first detection of radio recombination lines (RRLs) of ions heavier than helium. In a highly sensitive multi-band (12--50 GHz) line survey toward Orion KL with the TianMa 65-m Radio Telescope (TMRT), we successfully detected more than fifteen unblended $\alpha$ lines of RRLs of singly ionized species (XII) recombined from XIII. The Ka-band (35--50 GHz) spectrum also shows tentative signals of $\beta$ lines of ions. The detected lines can be successfully crossmatched with the the rest frequencies of RRLs of CII and/or OII. This finding greatly expands the connotation of ion RRLs, since before this work only two blended lines (105$\alpha$ and 121$\alpha$) of HeII had been reported. Our detected lines can be fitted simultaneously under assumption of local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE). An abundance of CIII and OIII of 8.8$\times$10$^{-4}$ is obtained, avoiding the complexities of optical/infrared observations and the blending of RRLs of atoms. It is consistent with but approaches the upper bound of the value (10$^{-4}$--$10^{-3}$) estimated from optical/infrared observations. The effects of dielectronic recombination may contribute to enhancing the level populations even at large $n$. We expect future observations using radio interferometers could break the degeneracy between C and O, and help to reveal the ionization structure and dynamical evolution of various ionized regions.

  • A magnetic accretion disk-outflow model for state transition in X-ray binaries

    摘要: The hard to soft state transition of the outbursts in X-ray binaries (XRBs) is triggered by the rising of the mass accretion rate due to the disk instability. In order to explain the observed correlation between the hard X-ray transition luminosity and the soft X-ray peak luminosity in the soft state, we construct a magnetic disk-outflow model for the state transition in XRBs. We assume that the large-scale magnetic field in the outer thin disk is formed through inverse cascade of small-scale dynamo generated field, and it is then advected by the inner advection dominated accretion flow (ADAF), which accelerates a fraction of the gas into the outflows. During the outbursts, the heating front moves inwards, and the field strength at the heating front of the outer disk is proportional to the accretion rate of the disk. Much angular momentum of the inner ADAF is carried away by the outflows for a stronger magnetic field, which leads to a high radial velocity of the ADAF. This makes the critical mass accretion rate of the ADAF increases with the field strength, and it therefore leads to a correlation between transition luminosity and the peak luminosity in the thermal state. We found that the values of the viscosity parameter $\alpha$ of the neutron star XRBs are systematically higher for those of the black hole (BH) XRBs ($\alpha\sim 0.05-0.15$ for BHs, and $\alpha\sim 0.15-0.4$ for neutron stars). Our model predicts the transition luminosity may be higher than the peak luminosity provided $\alpha$ is sufficiently high, which is able to explain a substantial fraction of outbursts in BHXRBs not reaching the thermally dominant accretion state.
