Abstract:
Background With the advancement of new technologies and treatment plans in cancer diagnosis and treatment, the survival rate of cancer patients has significantly increased. However, the cost of cancer treatment is also rising rapidly, exerting tremendous pressure on patients and their families. The economic burden caused by treatment expenses brings psychological distress to cancer patients and also affects their medication compliance, treatment delays, reduced quality of life, and difficulties in returning to work. Objective To systematically evaluate qualitative studies on economic toxicity experience and coping in cancer patients, and to provide reference for the construction of economic toxicity intervention strategies. Methods Qualitative studies on economic toxic experience and coping of cancer patients were retrieved from Chinese biomedical Literature Service System,China National Knowledge Network,Wanfang Database,VIP database,PubMed,Embase, Cochrane Library,Web of science,PsyINFO and other databases. The retrieval period was from the establishment of the database to October 2023. The included literatures were evaluated and meta-integrated according to the quality evaluation criteria for qualitative studies in the Australian JBI Evidence-based Health Care Center. Results A total of 18 literatures were included,71 topics were extracted,10 categories were summarized, and 4 integration results were formed:the impact of economic toxicity on patients;Difficulties and challenges facing;Coping strategy;Respond to needs and expectations. Conclusion Economic toxicity causes many challenges and difficulties to the life, psychology and society of cancer patients, which requires the strong support and attention of medical staff, family, society and government. Multi-channel and multi-dimensional intervention strategies should be adopted to improve the social support system and reduce the economic toxicity of patients.
