2024 pre-print academic community tour No.1-- Beihang University Station

In the era of open science, academic communication is also undergoing significant changes, and preprints are becoming a new type of academic communication system alongside academic journals, academic conferences, new media, etc., and are highly valued and recognised by the international academic community. The international preprint platform represented by arXiv is developing rapidly, and ChinaXiv (www.chinaxiv.org), a pre-publication platform for scientific and technical papers of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, constructed in 2016, has built a new type of high-end academic communication platform for the country. In order to further enhance researchers' knowledge of preprints, expand the academic influence of ChinaXiv, and promote the rapid development of academic communication, the preprint platform construction team of the National Science Library,Chinese Academy of Sciences has organised and planned a series of activities to promote preprints (ChinaXiv) into the academic community, and carried out publicity and promotional activities for colleges and research institutes nationwide. ChinaXiv has been promoted to universities and research institutes nationwide.

On 11 January 2024, Professor Chou Jingli, the head of the preprint platform construction project, was invited to Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (BUAA) to give a lecture on "Preprints and New Academic Communication". The lecture was hosted by Professor Yang Chao, the librarian of BUAA, and co-sponsored by the Library, Institute of Science and Technology, and Graduate School of BUAA, with more than 130 teachers and students participating in the study, exchange and discussion on site and online.

In the lecture, Professor Chou Jingli analysed the basic connotation, positioning and development history of preprints and preprint platforms, shared the latest construction progress of ChinaXiv, and focused on the relationship between preprint platforms and the mode of academic communication. Professor Chor pointed out that preprint platform, as a new type of academic communication mode, provides authors with the fastest channel to publish research results, and also becomes the first choice for authors to obtain the latest information. He emphasised the importance of building a new type of scholarly communication ecosystem, and called for extensive participation and synergy of the national academic community, including authors, readers, journals, libraries, and the academic community, in order to promote the healthy and sustainable development of the preprint platform, and to promote the process of scientific and technological innovation in the country.

After the lecture, the participating teachers and students had active exchanges and discussions on the relationship between preprints and disciplines, preprints and library resources construction, quality and reliability of preprints, preprints and academic evaluation, and other issues.

The "ChinaXiv Preprints in Academic Communities" event will continue to be held, and at the same time, more cooperation will be solicited and invited to promote the construction of preprints platform in the academic community.
