  • The Role of Prosodic Features in the Perception and Production of Adverbially Ambiguous Sentences in Mandarin

Subjects: Linguistics and Applied Linguistics >> Linguistics and Applied Linguistics submitted time 2025-07-01

Abstract: This study investigates the production and perception of adverbial ambiguity in Mandarin Chinese among native speakers and learners whose first language lacks lexical tone. Through both perception and acoustic experiments, we examine how prosodic features contribute to the disambiguation of adverbially ambiguous sentences. The findings demonstrate that prosody plays a crucial role in both the perception and production of such sentences, showing a strong association between prosodic cues and sentence-level meaning. In perception, native speakers can identify prosodic variations corresponding to different interpretations and accurately infer sentence meaning based on prosody. In production, they effectively use prosodic cues to convey intended interpretations. While L2 learners approximate native-like sensitivity to prosodic differences and can partially rely on prosodic information for interpretation, they still face challenges in using prosody effectively for disambiguation.

  • The positive effects of perceived overqualification in the team context: A research proposal with integrated composition approach and compilation approach

Subjects: Other Disciplines >> Synthetic discipline submitted time 2023-10-09 Cooperative journals: 《

Abstract: Owing to the economic recession and reduced employment opportunities, overqualification has become a common phenomenon in organizations worldwide (Hu et al., 2015; Zhang et al., 2016) and has attracted wide attention from industry and academia. In the research field of organizational behavior and human resources, scholars focus primarily on the perceived overqualification of employees—that is, individual employees' subjective feeling that their qualifications surpass the actual needs of job their work. Previous research has shown that perceived overqualification leads to many negative emotional experiences and organizational behaviors in employees, such as reduced job satisfaction and organizational commitment, decreased physical and mental health, increased turnover intention or even actual resignation, increased counterproductive behavior, and reduced organizational citizenship behavior (Harari et al., 2017; Erdogan & Bauer, 2021). However, previous studies have focused primarily on the negative effects of perceived overqualification at the individual level, while the exploration of its potential positive effects have been insufficient. In fact, the perceived overqualification of employees also has a positive effect (Thompson et al., 2013; van Dijk et al ., 2020). In addition, previous studies have neglected to address collective perceived overqualification at the team level (Erdogan & Bauer, 2021; Sierra, 2011; Li et al., 2021). Consequently, this study analyzes and explores the composition and influence of perceived overqualification in the team context by combining the composition approach and compilation approach. The composition approach mainly measures and analyzes the components of perceived overqualification of the team based on the team mean, while the compilation approach mainly measures and analyzes the components of perceived overqualification of the team through team standard deviation. The research for this study focused primarily on three aspects. First, based on social identity theory and the analytical framework of the I-P-O (input-process-output) model, to explored the positive impact and mechanism of the composition of team-perceived overqualification on team work output. Specifically, we explored the positive influence of the aggregate mean of team member's perceived overqualification through a positive team process on team work output, and the moderating effect of the aggregate standard deviation (team differentiation) of team member's perceived overqualification on this process. Second, based on social identity theory, we explored the cross-level positive effect and mechanism of the components of team-perceived overqualification on individual work output. To be more specific, we explored the indirect positive influence of the team mean value of team member's perceived overqualification, and mediating effect of individual team identity, and the boundary effect of team differentiation of team member's perceived overqualification on the above process. Third, based on the expectation states theory, we explored the positive effect of individual-perceived overqualification on individual work output under the effect of team differentiation of team member's perceived overqualification. Specifically, we explored the indirectly effects of individual-perceived overqualification on individual work output through informal team status in the condition of team differentiation of perceived overqualification. In summary, this paper is expected to expand the research on perceived overqualification in the team context and to better guide the practice of enterprise management. Key words

  • The positive effects of perceived overqualification in team context: A research proposal with integrated composition approach and compilation approach

Subjects: Psychology >> Management Psychology submitted time 2023-04-14

Abstract: The perceived overqualification refers to the subjective feeling that an individual thinks his qualification exceeds the actual need of the job he is engaged in. In today's organizations, the phenomenon of overqualification is common, and the influence of perceived overqualification has been widely concerned by scholars at home and abroad. However, previous studies mainly focused on the negative effects of the perceived overqualification at the individual level, and the exploration of its potential positive effects was a little insufficient, and ignored the attention to the perceived overqualification at the team level. Therefore, this study analyzes and explores the composition and influence of the perceived overqualification in the team context by combining composition approach and compilation approach. The research is mainly carried out in three aspects: first, to explore the positive impact of the composition of team perceived overqualification on team work output; Second, the cross-level positive influence of the composition of team perceived overqualification excess on individual work output is investigated. Third, the positive influence of individual’s perceived overqualification on work output is investigated under the condition of team differentiation of perceived overqualification. It’s expected to extend the research on the perceived overqualification in the team context to better guide the practice of enterprise management.

  • S-RAS method and its application in the sector division of input-output table

Subjects: Statistics >> Economic Statistics Subjects: Information Science and Systems Science >> Other Disciplines of Information Science and Systems Science submitted time 2022-10-12

Abstract: RAS method is one of the most important techniques for compiling and revising input-output tables. Based on the basic RAS method and the improved RAS method, this paper puts forward the S-RAS method. S-RAS method includes four steps: matrix preprocessing, applicability adjustment of matrix to RAS method, obtaining revised matrix by using basic RAS method, and forming new table. It extends the application of RAS method in updating the intermediate flow matrix in the input-output table to the whole input-output table. The step of the applicability adjustment of matrix to RAS method supplements the necessary treatment of implicit conditions in the application of RAS method. The S-RAS method is proposed in the process of completing the task of division. Therefore, this paper uses two examples of division to demonstrate the applicability of the S-RAS method.

  • Full Value Chain Management and Science Outputs Evaluation of Space Science Missions

Subjects: Other Disciplines >> Synthetic discipline submitted time 2023-03-28 Cooperative journals: 《

Abstract: The fundamental difference between a space science mission and other space missions is their output. For space missions that aimed to provide services and space applications, their outputs are clearly defined, such as telecommunication, navigation, TV broadcasting, weather forecast, ocean status monitoring and forecasts, land use and planning, etc. For space science mission, the outputs are expected to be discoveries and verification of new nature laws that may produce new scientific knowledge for the human beings. For this reason, the evaluation of the success of a space science mission is laid on its science outputs. This paper discusses the management considerations to ensure and maximize the science outputs of a space science mission covering the whole life cycle of a mission from strategic planning to science output evaluation. In particular, three main points are proposed on how to evaluate the science outputs of a space science mission.

  • A Research on the Propagation Effect of Exogenous Shocks in China s Production Network

Subjects: Management Science >> Other Disciplines of Management Science submitted time 2024-12-05

Abstract: From the perspective of production network, this paper discusses how the industrial structure propagate exogenous shocks, which in turn causes macroeconomic fluctuations. Starting with a Cobb-Douglas economy, we investigate the propagation mechanisms of supply-side and demand-side shocks respectively. Then, under more general conditions, it is proved that the propagation effect of the production network will not disappear with the subdivision of the industry, and the method of measuring the propagation effect is improved. The improved measurement method not only broadens the applicability of the original method, but also makes the measurement results more accurate. Using all non-competitive input-output tables since China’s accession to the WTO, this paper examines the topology of China’s production network, the probability distribution of weighted degrees, and the propagation effect on shocks. Key industries that propagate shocks are also identified. The research finds that China’s production network has small-world properties. Unlike developed countries such as the United States, the weighted degree of China’s production network follows an exponential distribution rather than a power-law distribution. The average value of the propagation effect of China’s production network on shocks is 0.376, of which about 30% of the effect comes from the weight structure of the network. The key industries that propagation shocks are as follows: steel, electricity, heat production and supply, wholesale and retail, automobile manufacturing and construction. According to the characteristics of China’s industrial structure, supply-side shocks may cause greater economic losses than demand-side shocks, especially the supply-side shocks in the mining industry. In addition, the optimization and upgrading of the industrial structure will help reduce the propagation effect of the production network, thereby reducing the systemic risks of the economy.

  • Relationships Between Note-Taking Behavior and Learning Outcome in Learning-Related Search

Subjects: Library Science,Information Science >> Information Science submitted time 2023-04-01 Cooperative journals: 《

Abstract: [Purpose/Significance] Information search is not only a process of information acquisition, but also a process of users’ self-learning. In the context of learning-related search, this paper explores the influence of the note-taking behavior on learning outcome in the process of searching, the characteristics of users’ note-taking behavior and the influence of the search context on note-taking behavior. [Method/Process] This paper collected data by the experiment method, analyzed the characteristics of note-taking by coding analysis, descriptive statistics and cluster analysis, and analyzed the association of note-taking with search context and learning outcome by difference test. [Result/Conclusion] This paper found three types of note-taking patterns: "rough collection-linear structure", "fine collection-linear structure" and "free structure". Users with more prior knowledge tend to adopt the pattern of "rough collection, linear structure", which may lead to poorer learning efficiency. The results are helpful to enrich the limited exploration of information use behavior in relevant researches on "search as learning" and inspire various information search systems to design and optimize functions from the perspective of supporting users' self-learning.

Subjects: Other Disciplines >> Synthetic discipline submitted time 2023-03-31 Cooperative journals: 《

Abstract: [Purpose/Significance] As an important research field of scientometrics, spatial scientometrics has been specifically proposed by scholars to discuss the spatial aspects of scientific research activities. At present, scholars at home and abroad have carried out quantitative research of spatial scientometrics, covering almost all aspects of scientometrics; however, there is little systematic review of the concept and research progress of spatial scientometrics. This article systematically reviews, analyzes, and summarizes the related research work of spatial scientometrics, with an aim to provide a reference for scholars to carry out spatial scientometrics research. [Method/Process] Based on the introduction of the concept of scientometrics and spatial scientometrics, this paper uses the literature research method to expound from three aspects including research theme, research method and visualization practice. [Results/Conclusions] The research finds that the current spatial scientometrics research is mainly based on the geographical location attributes of scientific information, and comprehensively uses bibliometric methods, network analysis methods, model construction and statistical methods, and multi-indicators construction methods to examine scientific collaboration, scientific research output and knowledge flow. This research also reveals the remaining problems and challenges in spatial scientometrics. First, in terms of the theoretical research system, spatial scientometrics essentially serves a specific field of scientometrics research, drawing on technical methods from the fields of computer science, network science, and economic geography, and has not formed a relatively independent theoretical system. Second, in terms of method applicability and utility research, its method selection is also arbitrary. Regarding the same research problems, researchers usually choose their own and familiar methods and tools based on experience. Thus, it is difficult to accurately evaluate the scientificity and validity of their analysis results, and even different research methods and tools reveal opposed so-called "characteristics and laws". Third, in terms of data analysis sources, the existing research is mostly around the data collected from Web of Science and Scopus databases. However, for a comprehensive and objective analysis of the spatial structure of scientific activities, other forms of data should be considered such as reports, the fund-funded projects and policy documents. Last, for data acquisition, when using the literature database to conduct quantitative research, since many well-known institutions and companies are not centrally distributed organizations, it is difficult to guarantee the author's real address. Due to the different scope and definition criteria of cities in different countries, an analysis of city-level data would affect the accuracy of the analysis results.

Subjects: Geosciences >> Geography submitted time 2024-09-25
