    The study of influence factors on charge exchange efficiency of C^{2+} to C^{-} by using Geant4

    摘要: A first attempt to simulate the charge exchange process of C2+ to C-, in which C2+ with low energy through an exchange medium, using the Monte Carlo Software Geant4 has been accomplished. The yields of Cq (q=-2, -1, 0 and +1) from injected C2+ with different energies into different exchange medium are measured by setting up the physical model in the simulation program. The effect of different energies (range from 60 to 300keV), different exchange medium (isobutene and methane), different density distribution of exchange medium in charge exchange cell on the charge exchange efficiency have been studied. The comparison of the present results with the experimental results shows the feasibility of this method. Moreover, the present results demonstrate that low-density diffuse regions on either side of the high-density central region in the charge exchange cell has a significant contribution to improving the charge exchange efficiency. The charge exchange efficiency in organic non-metallic gases of isobutene is higher than in methane, particularly, an efficiency close to 2% of C2+ to C- conversion can be achieved in methane.

    Measurements of Absolute Electron Capture Cross Sections in He2+ -He and Ne8+ -O2, N2, CH4 Collisions

    摘要: The total absolute cross sections of single- and double-electron capture (SEC and DEC) in the collisions of He2+ with He and Ne8+ with O2, N2, and CH4 were studied in the energy ranges 3.5 to 50 keV/u and 2.8 to 40 keV/u, respectively. Through a deep analysis of the experimental systematic uncertainties in the measurement procedure and data evaluation, the error in the experimental results of the SEC cross sections is less than 9%. Within the uncertainties, the present results of the He2+ -He collision show good consistency with previous measurements, validating the experimental system and paving the way for precise measurements of EC cross sections for a variety of ions and neutral gases. The present measurements allow for a test of EC theory and provide crucial EC cross section data for the establishment of plasma models in fusion research and astrophysical X-ray studies.

    Performance study of THGEM-based semi-cylindrical TPC for intermediate-energy charge exchange reaction experiments in inverse kinematics

    摘要: The semi-cylindrical Time Projection Chamber (scTPC) is designed to measure the angular distribution of the cross section of the intermediate-energy (3He,t) charge exchange reaction in inverse kinematics. The scTPC prototype has been constructed, consisting of a cathode, a field cage, a drift region, an amplification structure based on multi-layer thick gas electron multiplier (THGEM), and a readout plane with 886 zigzag-shaped pads. The gain uniformity of the THGEM and the drift velocity of electrons were calibrated. Then the track recognition based on the Hough transform was developed to reconstruct cosmic ray tracks and extract their position resolution. The position resolution of the secondary particle tracks from collisions between the heavy-ion beam and 3He target was also reported, with an x-resolution of 0.71 mm and a z-resolution of 0.73 mm. The scTPC is able to achieve sufficient energy resolution and spatial resolution to support the charge exchange reaction experiments in inverse kinematics.
