The Elements and Upgrade Path for the Competitiveness of Academic Library Patent Information Service postprint

Abstract: [Purpose/significance] At present, carrying out patent information service is one of the key directions for the transformation and development of academic library business. In the crucial period when more and more academic libraries focus on the service, it is particularly necessary to provide some experience and theoretical guidance.[Method/process] By the research methods of network survey, literature survey and expert interviews, this paper summarized the practices and modes adopted by domestic academic libraries in enhancing the competitiveness of patent information services, including establishing specialized service departments, cooperating with external institutions, expanding service scope, and etc.[Result/conclusion] Firstly, this paper presents five elements for the competitiveness of academic library patent information service, which contain management competitiveness, information resources competitiveness, human resource competitiveness, service competitiveness and brand competitiveness, and verified these elements by questionnaire method. Finally, it is suggested that academic library should reference the five elements and adopt the step-by-step strategy to enhance the competitiveness of patent information service systematically.
