Preprints have become a new type of academic communication, which plays an important role in promoting scientific communication and scientific and technological innovation. The international preprint platform represented by arXiv is developing rapidly, and ChinaXiv (www.chinaxiv.org) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has constructed a leading academic communication platform in China. In order to enhance researchers' understanding of preprints and improve the academic influence of ChinaXiv, and to promote the development of scientific exchange, the preprint team of the National Science Library，Chinese Academy of Sciences initiated a series of activities entitled "Preprints (ChinaXiv) into the Academic Community", which is aimed at publicising and promoting the preprints to colleges, universities, and scientific research institutes across the country. The aim is to publicise and promote ChinaXiv to universities and research institutes nationwide. On May 7, 2024, Prof. Chou Jingli, the head of the preprint platform construction project of the Document Intelligence Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was invited to Shandong University of Science and Technology to give a lecture on "Preprint and New Academic Communication", which was listed in the "Jixi Lecture Theatre (Humanities and Social Sciences) No. 60". The lecture was jointly organised by the School of Information Management of Shandong University of Technology, the Library of Shandong University of Technology, the Social Science Department of Shandong University of Technology and the Graduate Student Department of Shandong University of Technology, and more than 120 teachers and students participated in the study, exchange and discussion. Professor Cao Shujin, Dean of the School of Information Management of Shandong University of Technology, presided over the presentation. In the lecture, Professor Chou Jingli discussed three aspects, namely, what is preprint and preprint platform, preprint platform and scholarly communication model, and building a new type of scholarly communication ecosystem. Taking the pain point of academic communication of journals as an entry point, Prof Chor explained the basic connotation, positioning and development history of preprint and preprint platform, and also shared the latest construction progress of ChinaXiv and the sub-platforms under construction, and focused on elaborating that the essence of preprint platform is a new type of academic communication mode, which implements the open and post-commentary, and solves the problem of the traditional academic communication efficiency which is too slow. Professor Chor emphasised the need to look positively and objectively at the new type of scholarly communication in preprints, and looked forward to the broad participation and synergy of the national academic community. At the same time, Professor Chor also called on the academic community to pay attention to and promote the construction of the preprint platform, libraries should actively incorporate preprints into the collection resource system, and individuals should constantly enhance the tracking and learning of preprints and preprint platforms in order to improve their own preprints and preprint platforms literacy capabilities. Before the meeting, the library of Shandong University of Technology has included ChinaXiv into the collection resource system. After the lecture, the participating teachers and students had a lively exchange and discussion on the differences of preprint platforms at home and abroad, the citation methods of preprint platforms, the attitudes of journal editors towards preprint papers, and the relationship between preprints and open access journals. This is the sixth lecture in this year's series. The "ChinaXiv in Academic Communities" event will continue to be held, and more collaborations will be solicited and invited to promote the construction of preprint platforms in the academic community and industry.
